Simple Korean Skincare For MenPosted on 09/06/2020
We all know two big beauty trends for sure. Firstly, Korea has quickly gained the title as leaders in skincare, something that was previously long-held by France and Japan. Korean beauty skincare stands out from others due to its focus on making gradual changes to the skin over time. This means the effects last significantly longer than others. Rather than boasting products that will make your skin look younger, clearer, and brighter overnight; Korean skincare is designed to be used consistently for results that will last months instead of days or hours. And the second trend is that men are starting to get more and more serious about their skincare routine, and starting to explore Korean skincare. Gone are the days where skincare and men are seen as mutually exclusive and a definite no-no. More men are seeing skincare products as part of their daily lives.
Famous k-pop bands like BTS, which is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan (or Bulletproof Boy Scouts) have entered our mainstream culture. In an interview with Allure, they share how important skincare is to them (hence the flawless, fresh glowing skin that many are envious over). “Skin is what completes my appearance. I value my looks very much, so it’s equally important to take good care of my skin” one of the artists, Jin, told Allure. “On the plane, I dampen cotton pads with toner and put on lotion twice as much,” another BTS star added.
Ok, ok, guys — we know you might be thinking “that’s a little extreme dontcha think?!” — true. We are not all celebrities like the BTS guys, but that doesn’t mean you cannot achieve great skin. With the fast pace of our lives and demands, introducing the Korean 10-step skincare to any guy could prove a little challenging and could be in the ‘too hard basket’). The 10-step skincare process may give the skin of your dreams to those committed, but thankfully there are also shortcuts.
Skincare routine for men in 4 easy steps
Let’s condense it into the must-haves and keep it as straightforward as possible for you. If you focus on the foundational basics of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturising and SPF, you’ll prevent a lot of premature aging, fine lines and keep yourself looking fresh. Keep that going consistently and you can always build on top of that. So, no need for toners, serums, masks just yet. Let’s get started.
1. Cleanse twice a day
Wash your face morning and night to remove the sweat, dirt, grime and excess oil that has found its way inside your pores. By doing this, you will prevent your pores from being blocked and breaking out.
Also, cleansing before using any other products helps with the effectiveness of other products such as your moisturiser and exfoliator. To put it this way, you need to have a clean canvas before you put anything on it. Cleanse your skin when you wake up to clean impurities that accumulated while you slept, then again before sleeping to wash away the day’s build-up.

2. Exfoliate twice a week
Exfoliators help to scrub away any dead skin and impurities on your skin as well as inside your pores. This is important to do so you don’t clog your pores which can lead to breakouts. This exfoliation step also allows for healthier skin cell renewal which in effect gives you a healthier and brighter complexion. To avoid too much abrasion (and to prevent you from looking like a raw tomato), it is recommended to exfoliate 1-3 times per week only.

3. Moisturise twice daily
Once you’ve cleansed and polished the skin with an exfoliator, it’s time to hydrate, protect and seal the deal — that is, moisturise. This will deliver soothing vitamins and nutrients to your skin, while creating a protective barrier for the skin to shield it from smoke, smog and all the other elements of the world. Moisturisers also strengthen the skin barrier and help lock in hydration.
Apply moisturiser in the morning and just before bed. You can even use a night cream for bedtime as its usually denser and adds more corrective barrier on the skin.
4. Always wear sunscreen
The sun can be extremely damaging to your skin, especially in the Australian climate. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can affect skin cells even on cloudy and cold days too.
The UV rays can lead to sunspots, moles, wrinkles, sunburns, patchy dry skin, and worst of all —skin cancer! It’s critical to protect your skin from harmful rays with daily sun protection. Some daily moisturisers have SPF in it, or you can apply an additional layer of sunscreen on top of your usual moisturiser.
We encourage our male customers to continue taking care of their skin. Korean skincare is for men too! Most Korean beauty brands don’t have a separate “Men’s skincare line”, because the products are unisex! Formulations are based on skin type and helping with skin concerns rather than marketing products based on gender.
